NFACC Code of Practice Managers

The National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) is looking for people with strong facilitation, communication (written and oral), critical thinking, and project management skills to serve as Code Managers for an update to the Transportation Code of Practice. The NFACC Code Manager plays a pivotal role within the Code development process, driving the successful and timely completion of their assigned Code.

Contracted positions will be variable part-time (approximately 2-3 days/week). Depending upon the number of qualified candidates, we may be able to offer a single candidate full time-hours. The anticipated start date is February 15, 2019.

Specific to the Transportation Code, a review of the Report on Findings: Scope and Structure of Code of Practice for the Transportation of Livestock and Poultry will provide candidates with a framework of the approach being taken to update this Code. Further useful contextual reports for the Transportation Code update are Environmental Scan of Regulatory and Operational Considerations and Review of Scientific Research on Priority Welfare Issues. Qualifications:

Training, experience, or post-secondary education related to at least one of the key skillsets is required for this position, notably, facilitation/conflict-resolution, communication, and/or project management. Additional relevant post-secondary education is an asset (e.g., animal welfare science, agriculture, social sciences, public policy). While the primary language used will be English, French language skills are an asset.

A willing, positive attitude and critical thinking skills are fundamental to the Code Manager position. The position requires a person who is self-directed and motivated to succeed, while able to work as part of a dynamic and supportive team.

This is an ideal position for someone who excels at working remotely out of a home office, but is also able to travel as needed for meetings. Home office requirements include telephone, internet, printer, and a computer with a current MS software package including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Responsibilities:

NFACC Code Managers play a pivotal role within the Code development process. They are central to the success of the Code being developed. The Code Manager is expected to be a neutral facilitator for the Code Working Groups and the Code Development Committee.

Reporting Structure:

Code Managers report directly to the Code Director and NFACC General Manager. However, they must have a close working relationship with the Code Committee Chair and be capable of working independently as required.
