NFACC WELCOMES NEW ASSOCIATE MEMBER - FARM CREDIT CANADA

MARKET RELEVANT CODES AND COMMUNICATION LEADERSHIP PROJECT* UPDATE
Chicken, Turkeys and Breeders – the Code of Practice for the care and handling of hatching eggs, breeders, chickens and turkeys was released June 15, 2016. The new Code is available at: www.nfacc.ca/codes-of-practice/chickens-turkeys-and-breeders.
Poultry (layers) – the 60-day public comment period for the DRAFT layer Code of Practice closed on August 29, 2016. Over 1900 submissions were received which resulted in over 20,500 actual comments.
The layer Code Development Committee is now considering the comments toward final consensus. The committee met in October. A summary of the October meeting will soon be available at www.nfacc.ca/progress-report-layers. A second post-public comment period meeting has been scheduled for November. Subsequently, consensus for a final Code of Practice is anticipated.
Bison – the Code Development Committee met in September 2016. A summary of that meeting is available at www.nfacc.ca/progress-report-bison. The draft bison Code is now being prepared for public comment. The public comment period for the bison Code will commence on November 21st and run until January 19, 2017. On November 21st you will be able to access the draft Code and public comment period system at www.nfacc.ca/codes-of-practice/bison. A press release will be released to announce the beginning of the public comment period.
Rabbits –the Code Development Committee will be meeting in October 2016. A summary of the July meeting is available at www.nfacc.ca/progress-report-rabbit. The October meeting will be the final meeting before the public comment period. A start date for the public comment period still needs to be determined.
The rabbit Scientific Committee’s report has been peer reviewed and is undergoing final edits. It will be released publicly when the draft Code is released for its public comment period.
Veal Cattle – the Code Development Committee met in August 2016. A summary of the meeting is available at www.nfacc.ca/progress-report-veal-cattle. The next meeting is scheduled for October and will be the last meeting before the public comment period. A start date for the public comment period still needs to be determined.
