The public comment period for the proposed amendments to the pullet and laying hen Code of Practice ends May 26, 2025

REMINDER NOTICE: The proposed amendments to the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pullets and Laying Hens are available for public comment until May 26, 2025. The National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) and Egg Farmers of Canada announced the launch of the 60-day public comment period on March 27, 2025.

The draft amendments and the online platform to submit comments are accessible HERE. All comments must be submitted through the online platform, for which easy to follow instructions are provided. Participants can comment on all amended sections or easily navigate to amendments of most interest to them.

Codes of Practice for the care and handling of farm animals are the result of a unique consensus-based, multi-stakeholder approach used across various agricultural sectors. This is an important opportunity for all stakeholders with an interest in the welfare of pullets and laying hens to contribute to the amended Code of Practice.

After the comment period, the Code Committee will consider all input, and the final Code is projected to be completed in the summer of 2025. More information about the Code amendment process is HERE.

In addition to this amendment, five Codes—beef cattle, equine, pig, sheep, and poultry—are being updated as part of a multi-year NFACC project. Visit www.nfacc.ca for more details and a timeline outlining the steps and progress made on the respective Codes.
